DIY Goto Telescope Mount
Components
- PCB (Printed Circuit Board): The custom PCB serves as the main control board for the telescope mount, providing connections for various components.
- Arduino Nano: The Arduino Nano is a small microcontroller board that runs the software and controls the telescopes movements based on user input.
- RN4870: The RN4870 is a Bluetooth module that allows wireless communication with the telescope mount, enabling remote control and data transfer.
- LSM6DSO: The LSM6DSO is an accelerometer and gyroscope module used for motion sensing and stabilization of the telescope mount.
- LIS3MDL: The LIS3MDL is a magnetometer module that helps the telescope mount determine its orientation and position based on Earths magnetic field.
- DS1307: The DS1307 is a real-time clock module that provides accurate timekeeping for precise tracking and positioning of celestial objects.
- A4988: The A4988 is a stepper motor driver that controls the two stepper motors used in the telescope mount to move it smoothly and accurately.
- Stepper Motors: These motors convert electrical signals into precise mechanical rotations, allowing the telescope to move horizontally and vertically.
- PCA9306DC: The PCA9306DC is a level shifter and voltage translator that ensures proper communication between different components operating at different voltage levels.
- Custom 3D Printed Mount: The custom 3D printed mount provides a sturdy structure to attach the telescope and other components, ensuring stability and alignment.
Features
This is a custom Telescope mount that allows you to select a target and point at it. Using this mount allows you to easly point at deep space targets so you can do long exposure images.
Specifications
It uses an Arduino Nano as the brains of the mount. It uses the RN4870 Bluetooth Module from Microchip for wireless communication. It uses Stellaruim to communicate with the telescope. It uses a custom 3D printed ALT-AZ mount (Gear box designed by Michael Rechtin)
